Alex Txikon Summit #Manaslu2023, third time, lucky!

When conditions are favorable and mental and physical strength are with you

In 60 hours, Alex Txikon climbed Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain on the planet of 8163m. Accompanied by his climbing companions, six Nepalese sherpas, his second eight-mile in winter, they returned to British Columbia safe and sound after facing extreme cold conditions.

After two unsuccessful attempts, where preparation and effort were also latent, the mountain and weather conditions were more favorable.

As he reports, "it was a very difficult, demanding and dangerous rise, which required us to have bestial physical and mental strength. The mountain was much more difficult and in worse conditions than I thought," said Alex Txikon from Kathmandu. The extreme cold, ice and strong wind accompanied them throughout the journey. In fact, they experienced temperatures below 45º and experienced gusts of wind up to 50km per hour.

After a few weeks of acclimation, on the 4th of January, at 8 a.m. in the morning, they left for the first CB. There was a window of good weather, they were acclimatized and felt they had a good opportunity to gain height. The next part of the journey was very difficult and very complicated, even dangerous, he says. Indeed, they spent the night under a huge Serac which did not exactly bring security. On 5 January, they set sail for the C3 at 6950 metres, after having assessed the situation and barely rested, they decided to attack the summit. At 9:30 a.m., they reached it. A few hours later, at 6 p.m., CB was destroyed.

The Basque mountaineer made history: treading the Manaslu for the first time in the history of a purely winter expedition and without artificial oxygen. Of course, he also thanked Simone Moro, who decided to go down from C2 to CB so as not to hinder the group on the way down.

This time it was clear to them that when the conditions were met they would seize the opportunity.

The progression was quick because they barely climbed ropes on the road. A successful challenge, a well-run situation and a team effort. Waking up on the Day of the Wise Men with such good news, doesn’t happen every year!.

We are happy to have contributed our bit to see this dream of height fulfilled.

We also shared the summit with him, as well as the other sponsors, and this makes us proud because it means that our equipment works properly in demanding situations. We also crowned another great summit.

Thank you for trusting us, thank you for involving us, we will accompany you in your next adventure.
