"Consistency beats talent"

Who I Am

I was born in Barcelona and grew up in Vila Olímpica with my parents and my brother. In 2008, my parents bought a house in the Pyrenees and, without realizing it, that marked the beginning of a very special relationship with the mountains. For several years, I was part of a ski club and, over time, discovering routes and wandering through the Pyrenees became one of my greatest pleasures.

I started running in 2016, initially as a way to complement other sports. Trail running came later, in 2020, during the covid summer. Until then, I mostly trained on the road, although I had already tried a few night races and occasional mountain sessions. At that moment, I understood I needed to shift my mindset: stop demanding so much from myself, stop obsessing over the clock, run without pressure, enjoy the landscape, focus on the terrain and my sensations. Since then, I’m a different Elena when I run in the mountains. I still train on the road because I enjoy keeping that edge and chasing faster times, but trail running gives me something different: peace.

I work in a company dedicated to precious metal coatings for various industries, in the Customer Service department. I studied chemistry, but I’ve never liked being confined within four walls. I’m restless, I need movement, and sport is essential to balancing my everyday life.

Podiums

Even though I’m not a professional athlete, stepping onto the podium is always special.

Special Races

I have fond memories of podium finishes at Trail de Galibier, Gran Trail Picos de Europa, Bastions, and Trail Cap de Creus.

First Mountain Marathon

Finishing my first mountain marathon in Vall de Boí — after getting lost for a few kilometers.

My Journey

Although I’m not a professional athlete, standing on a podium always feels rewarding. I especially treasure races like Trail de Galibier, Gran Trail Picos de Europa, Bastions, and Trail Cap de Creus. I also smile when I think about my first mountain marathon in Vall de Boí, which I finished despite getting lost for several kilometers. For me, sporting success isn’t about winning — it’s about appreciating that we can run, move, and enjoy sport. That’s the real victory.

On a personal level, one of my greatest achievements has been learning to manage my emotions and strengthen my self-esteem. For years, I carried the idea that I wasn’t good enough because I didn’t get into the degree program I wanted. It was a painful time, but with time, effort, and the support of the people around me, I realized that I was far more capable than I believed.

Looking ahead, I’m drawn to longer distances. I’ve raced up to 48 km and feel comfortable there, but I’m not in a hurry to move into ultra-distance. I like to think of it as “a morning in the mountains,” observing how sensations evolve with the kilometers and discovering new places. Running long distances helps me understand myself better. I enjoy it, and the more kilometers I cover, the more places I discover.

The mountains are my place. A space where no one judges. It may sound typical to say they make me feel good, but it’s true. All outdoor activities give me life.

My Outdoor Essence

When I head to the mountains, I always bring… A waterproof jacket, emergency blanket, water, gels, salts…

If I wanted to introduce someone to the outdoors, I would… Invite them to my house in the French Pyrenees and show them some easy routes that I love.

When I’m not in the mountains, I’m… Probably working, haha. But otherwise, with my loved ones — exploring somewhere with mountains in our van, playing board games, doing crosswords, dancing bachata with my dad, eating, or sleeping.

The most important thing the mountains have taught me is… To listen to myself and know when to stop. To speak kindly to myself. Not to rush results, because everything comes with consistency. To understand that the mountain is in charge, and that turning back at the right time is always a victory. Doing more doesn’t necessarily mean going farther.

A landscape or moment in the mountains I’ll never forget is… In 2025, while in Nepal, we spent a week walking in terrible weather — rain, snow, without seeing the mountains. Then one morning everything was white, the sun was shining spectacularly, and suddenly Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Everest… all standing before us. Goosebumps.
