TOMMASO DI BERT

"I like telling real stories and capturing unique moments with my camera"

Who I Am

I was born and live near Udine (Friuli, Italy), just a step away from Slovenia and Austria. As a child, my parents used to take us camping at 1,500 meters for days at a time, without electricity or running water. Those summers deep in the forest changed everything. Later, once I had a car, I often went alone to the mountains — to hike, to run without a watch, to observe and to photograph.

Photography came into my life at 17; my first paid jobs arrived at 22, while I was still studying. At 30–31, I decided to dedicate myself fully to this path. Today, my work is divided roughly between photography (40%), video (30%), and communication (30%), almost always focused on nature, outdoor, and mountain environments. Beyond content creation, I’ve coordinated teams and events, and I’ve covered trail races for more than 24 hours straight, producing photo, video, and social media stories in real time.

From a sporting perspective, I’m multi-activity: trail running, MTB, and ski mountaineering. I enjoy spending long hours outdoors, learning from the terrain and from the light.

Outdoor Photographer

At 30–31, I made the leap to work 100% in photography, video, and communication within the outdoor world.

Trail Race Coverage

I’ve coordinated teams creating real-time content during long-distance trail running events.

Multi-Activity

I love spending time in the mountains — hiking, photographing, riding my bike, or skiing.

My Journey

I started photographing out of pure passion, even knowing that “making a living from nature photography” is not easy. Over time, that passion expanded into sport and communication. What drives me is creating honest content, rooted in the terrain, and collaborating with brands and projects that share the same vision.

I’m also interested in teamwork — growing alongside other creative perspectives and developing larger projects (travel reports, community experiences with stores, etc.). I want to continue doing one or two reportage trips per year, purely for learning and to reconnect with the essence of going out without the pressure of an assignment and photographing for pleasure.

Mountains & Photography

My favorite moment to photograph is during the blue hour — when the sun is no longer “the star” and everything is tinted with calm, cool tones. It’s a long moment; you have almost an hour to decide what story to tell, without chasing an impossible backlight.

I choose quality over quantity. I like to prepare each project carefully: understanding the place and its history, speaking with people, studying the light and the framing. I believe in measured post-production. I can spend hours on a single image — working layer by layer, balancing lights and shadows — but the result must feel natural. No “flying dragons” or animals that weren’t there. I prefer the truth of the landscape.

My Outdoor Essence

When I head to the mountains, I always bring… A Gore-Tex jacket.

If I wanted to introduce someone to the outdoors, I would take them to… A viewpoint to experience the blue hour — with time, calm, and no distractions.

When I’m not in the mountains, I’m… Thinking about new ideas.

The most important thing the mountains have taught me is… You can’t always plan things or choose the conditions. You simply have to do your best with what you have at that moment. I think that’s also a rule for life.
