Imagine wearing the same t-shirt two or three times before washing it without odor being a problem? It's not a viral challenge, it's what Polygiene® StayFresh technology, integrated into several Trangoworld garments, makes possible. Here's what it is, how it works, and how it helps reduce the environmental impact of your mountain clothing in a real, measurable way.
Freshness, that lasts
What is Polygiene® and how does Polygiene® StayFresh work?
Polygiene® is a Scandinavian brand founded in 2006, a leader in odour control and freshness technologies for technical textiles. Its StayFresh technology is integrated directly into the fibres of the garment — it's not a surface treatment, but part of the fabric from the very first moment.
Polygiene® is a Scandinavian ingredient brand founded in 2006 and global leader in performance technologies for textiles, delivering advanced solutions that keep garments and products fresher for longer. Polygiene’s bluepass and Oeko-Tex passport certified odor-control technology Polygiene® StayFresh is embedded into treated garments, ensuring it works 24/7 for the entire lifetime of the product.
Key benefits of Polygiene® StayFresh
- Efficient odor-control: The technology inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria, responsible for the “sweaty-smell” in the fabric, keeping it fresher and more hygienic even during intense activities.
- Reliable freshness: More freshness means more confidence and comfort for you. And it also means you can wash the product less, saving water, energy and your time and money.
- Lower environmental impact: By washing less, you save valuable environmental resources and the product lasts longer, reducing the environmental footprint of each garment. According to an independent study by the SWECO Institute in 2023, this can reduce the product’s ecological footprint by up to 1/3. For more information visit: www.polygiene.com
Which Trangoworld garments feature Polygiene® StayFresh technology?
Trangoworld incorporates Polygiene® StayFresh into a selection of technical garments where odour control delivers real value to the user: in t-shirts that are often worn for extended periods during an activity, making odor control particularly important, in trail running socks where odor control and hygiene have a direct effect on foot comfort, and in lifestyle garments for those looking for outdoor clothing that can also be worn day-to-day without compromising on freshness.
On our website, you can identify garments with this treatment by looking into our product description. You can also use the "Anti odour" filter under "Features" to view only garments with Polygiene® technology. Or just watch out for the Polygiene® logo.
Real savings: The value of washing less – LCA approved
In 2023, the independent Swedish institution SWECO conducted a life cycle assessment (LCA) of garments (180g T-Shirt) treated with Polygiene® StayFresh. The study compared washing after every use with washing after every second use over 156 training sessions per year.
The LCA results:
- 51 kWh of energy savings, equivalent to around 500 hours of computer use.
- 3,800 litres of water savings, equivalent to the annual drinking water needs of s6 adults.
- Up to four days of user time saved.
Based on the conditions of the study, extending wear between washes reduces the total environmental impact of a T-shirt by up to one third. Real, measurable savings, wash by wash, garment by garment, year by year.
Small changes, big impact: wear more, wash less
Polygiene’s philosophy is based on a simple idea: helping garments stay fresh for longer, so they can be worn more often before washing. Over time you save significant amounts of:
- Fresh water.
- Detergents.
- Energy.
- The product lasts longer, due to less fabric abrasion from washing.
Trangoworld and Polygiene®: shared goals
At Trangoworld we understand sustainability in concrete terms: not as a label certificate, but as a design and manufacturing decision that translates into garments that last longer, perform better and reduce their impact throughout their entire lifespan.
That’s why we work with Polygiene®. Their expertise in textile performance technologies complements our commitment to creating durable, high-quality products. As consumer expectations continue to evolve, there is increasing interest in products that are made to last and support more mindful use over time.
Frequently asked questions
Polygiene® StayFresh is an odour control technology integrated directly into the fabric fibres. It inhibits the growth of bacteria that cause bad odour, keeping the garment fresh and hygienic even if the intensity ramps up, allowing it to be worn multiple times between washes.
A garment treated with Polygiene® StayFresh inhibits the growth of odour-causing bacteria in the fabric, resulting in less sweat smell even after intense activity. The practical outcome: you can confidently wear the product longer without washing. By washing less, you significantly reduce the product's environmental footprint.
The recommendation is to wear the garment two or three times before washing under normal activity conditions.

Yes. Every wash consumes water, energy and detergent, and wears down the fabric fibres. According to a LCA from SWECO, skipping one in every two washes reduces the total environmental impact of a t-shirt by one third over its lifespan. Washing less is a simple and effective action to reduce the environmental footprint of your clothing.
